What is Adoption?
Adoption is a legal process through which children become the legal members of a new family.
It is a permanent arrangement and completed in England and Wales or Northern Ireland through the family courts.
When you have your adoption order, you have the same rights and responsibilities for children as if they were born to you.
Child adoption cannot cure infertility or address your loss. But it does offer some of you the chance to become adoptive parents to children who need a family and a permenant home outside of the care system.

Who Is Eligible for Adoption?
If you’re considering adopting children, you may be asking ‘can I adopt?’ To be considered for adoption in the UK, you need to fulfil three criteria:
- You need to be at least 21 years old
- You need to live in the UK including England, Wales, or Northern Ireland.
- You mustn’t have been convicted of certain criminal offences

What is the Process for Adopting Children?
At Jigsaw Adoption agency, the adoption process begins with prospective adoptive parents completing our preliminary adoption application interest form and arranging a meeting with our friendly team. We’ll complete our mandatory checks and ensure we’re the right adoption agency for you before moving forward with the adoption process.
Throughout the entire process, the needs and best interests of the children are always our main priority, as we work closely with local authorities to ensure a successful outcome.

Many of our team members have adopted children, offering a unique understanding of both sides of the adoption process. The team at Jigsaw Adoption ensures ongoing adoption support for all adoptive parents as they embark on this journey with us.
You’ll have plenty of time with our team to voice your concerns or queries about the adoption process. We’ll ensure a collaborative relationship throughout, as we support you in creating a permanent home for the children in your care.

Jigsaw Adoption is based in Oxfordshire and London. We work with adopters across the Thames Valley region and all London Boroughs.
We work with local authorities across England, Wales and Scotland to help match you with children.
A number of our core team are adoptive mothers, and we understand how emotional this can feel. That’s why we offer compassionate, supportive relationships throughout the adoption process and after children are placed, up until legal adoption.
