Two children in vibrant raincoats and wellies holding umbrellas, a snapshot of life when adopting siblings in the UK

Jigsaw Adoption Case Study

We met later in life and attempted to have children shortly after moving in together. Two years in, we pursued IVF, like many couples do. Reflecting on it now, it’s remarkable how we managed multiple cycles over a span of four years. We suffered two early miscarriages, each leaving us devastated. Our last pregnancy led to hospital surgery, a trauma we couldn’t endure again. A significant portion of our relationship was consumed by efforts to conceive.

Considering adoption, we were uncertain about what to expect. Online research presented a mixed bag of overly optimistic stories and disheartening experiences. We discovered Jigsaw online and decided to attend one of their meetings. It turned out to be a positive experience, offering us a wealth of information. Although Sadie’s medical history was complex and required extensive documentation from the hospital, we appreciated the personalised communication we received from Jigsaw.

Now, we have the privilege of keeping our son and daughter, aged 5 and 3.5 respectively, together for life.

Our assessment was a thought-provoking experience, prompting us to examine our own life histories and family dynamics. It had its tiring moments, but it also left us feeling both excited and apprehensive. Although we initially thought the process would be incredibly challenging, we never felt judged.

Thirteen months and nine days after we began working with Jigsaw, we welcomed our children home. We never anticipated adopting two children, but after much discussion, we knew it was the right decision. Now, we have the privilege of keeping our son and daughter, aged 5 and 3.5 respectively, together for life. We’re immensely grateful to Jigsaw and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the agency. They’ve been exceptional in preparing and supporting us throughout this journey.
